Construction Method and Considerations of ALC Panel

ALC panel can be divided into ALC internal panel, ALC self-insulation external wall panel, ALC roof panel/ floor panel, and fire-proof panel, can be directly used in a variety of architectural structure, such as hotel, school, restaurant, office building, commercial building, residential building, etc.


ALC (Aerated lightweight concrete) panel is made of fine quartz sand (fly ash, river sand, and other siliceous materials), cement, lime, and plaster as main raw materials, aluminum powder as a foaming agent, through the processes of ingredients, mixing, pouring, pre-curing, cutting, and curing under the high temperature (180℃~200℃) high pressure (10 to 12 standard atmospheric pressure). ALC panel has outstanding features of energy-saving and environmental protection. It is a new lightweight green wall material with superior performance.

(1) How many ways to install ALC partition panel, and how to fix?

ALC internal panel can be installed vertically, usually use the “two-ends fixed” method. ALC external panel can be installed horizontally or vertically.

ALC internal panel uses fastener to fix in general. ALC external panel uses hook bolt to fix, since hook bolt method requires welding, it mainly used in steel structure project.

(2) How to deal with the junction of ALC wall panel and beam column plate?

The method can be divided into surface treatment and seam treatment. The surface treatment is to add a 200mm-wide mesh (100mm on both sides) to the junction while doing the scraping putty process. Seam treatment is to leave a gap of 10-20mm, when the span is shorter than 6-meter, the gap can be compacted with bonding mortar; to prevent shrinkage distortion when the span is longer than 6-meter, the gap can be filled with a foaming agent (change foaming agent to rock wool when fire resistance is required).


(3) The waterproof problem of ALC panel

Regular waterproofing technology is feasible, such as TS coil, SBS coil, polyurethane coating, etc.

(4) The slotting problem of ALC panel

It can be slotted vertically when embedded pipelines are needed during construction. Since there are two layers of steel mesh inside of ALC panel, small distance horizontal slotting is also feasible. It is necessary to use a cutting machine to cut out the outline before slotting, it is not allowed to hit with a chisel straightly. Once the pipeline has been embedded, the gap should be filled with polymer mortar or a special binder.

Due to the junction box or distribution box need to open large holes, the panel can be punched through if needed. Once the installation has finished, the gap should be filled with polymer mortar or a special binder.

(5) The decoration of ALC panel

In general, the bathroom, kitchen, or external wall is often needed for tile fixing or other small paste decoration. Firstly brush a layer of acrylic emulsion (107-glue), then full brush 2~3mm interface agent (or plain cement paste), at last use ceramic binder to fix tiles.

(6) The hanging force of ALC panel

100mm-thick ALC panel single point hanging force is about 120 kilogram

ALC panel can take advantage of self-tapping nails to install portable ornament or hanger. Expansion bolts and penetrate screws can be used if need to install heavy objects (washbasin, heating radiator, water heater, sink, wall cupboard, indoor/outdoor air conditioner, etc.).

(7) The interface of ALC panel can be divided into

1.Flat: bond by the binder, easy to crack, rarely used

2. C-type: Dual groove, piecing two “C” together to form a circular core column, and then put steel bar and concrete into it. The advantage is the structural performance is good; the shortage is too complicated to construct. 

3. T-type: concave-convex groove, piecing together and filling the gap with a special binder. It is the easiest way to construct.

3. L-type: Mainly used for roof panel and floor panel
